September Prayer Points

September 2, 2015

Dear Framily,

Please pray through these prayer points with us:

  • Lynn, a woman in Niagara, Ontario we had never met, has not only generously given up her house for us to use for as long as we need it, but has done so much in preparation for us to use it – from getting enough beds, to collecting toys for our kids, to setting up internet access for us, to stocking the fridge with fresh fruits and vegetables, to informing her neighbours of our coming… the list goes on. The house is ideally located for us to visit with our Canadian family, friends, partners, supporting churches before we head back to Uganda. It is also in a family-friendly neighbourhood full of other children.
  • Angie’s Grandfather, Gerald H. VanManen, passed away on August 25 at the age of 84 and is now experiencing Glory with Jesus. He was a godly, faithful, jovial, hardworking, humble, compassionate, kind man who made everyone he came across feel loved and valuable. We are so thankful for the time we’ve been able to have with him, from when he and Grandma, his wife of 65 years, came to visit us while we were serving in Ukraine; to when we lived with them for our first year as parents with Avalien as we prepared to move to Uganda; to playing Mexican train with them and Great Grandma; to enjoying pie and icecream with them and Inky, a stray cat they took in; to tractor and swing rides for our kids… so many great memories. We are also so thankful that we could be at his funeral, a wonderful celebration of his life. Click here for some photos.

  • Pius, Fred and Lazarus (young Iteso men in our student sponsorship program) have just entered a new semester at Africa Bible University in Kampala. Pius is starting his third year, while Fred and Lazarus are starting their first, all going for a Bachelor’s degree. Please pray that they may rely on the Spirit for strength and wisdom to focus and persevere, and that they may have the power to grasp the Truth they are taught, namely “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that [they] may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Stay tuned for profiles and descriptions of these three young men.

  • We are in desperate need of a teacher, preferably with a K-8 teaching degree, for our four oldest children – Miriam (15), Avalien (10), Moses (8), and Zulea (5).
  • Please pray about setting up a team, and that God would lead others to set up teams, to raise funds for Beyond Sustainability Projects and the Beyond Proclaimer (Bible listening) Program in the Ride/Foot for Refuge which is taking place on October 3. Click here for more info.
